Hong Kongï¿½s historic Ohel Leah Synagogue, a Modern Orthodox Synagogue which serves the diverse Jewish community in Hong Kong and many visitors from around the world, is looking for an inspirational and charismatic new Rabbi. The Ohel Leah Rabbi should provide dynamic leadership to the congregation composed of approximately 200 families and single adults from all over the world who come from a variety of religious and professional backgrounds. The ideal candidate should be able to develop the synagogue to its full potential as a welcoming place for daily prayer as well as a center of Torah learning and a focal point for all Jews living in Hong Kong as well as for overseas visitors. The Rabbi is expected to actively participate in services and community events as well as develop educational programs for all ages. The beautiful synagogue building, which dates from 1902, is in the main residential Jewish neighborhood. It is part of a Jewish Community Center that includes a mikvah, a dairy and meat restaurant, a Jewish pre-school, a kosher grocery store and a large Jewish library. The community also includes a Jewish day school for Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Synagogue services follow an Ashkenazi nusach (nusach Sephard). The successful candidate should have an impressive education and be able to demonstrate an outlook central to the principles of Modern Orthodoxy. He should demonstrate leadership skills in rendering Halachic decisions and in motivating adults and children, and should have significant pastoral experience. Fluent English and excellent public-speaking skills are essential. The successful candidate will receive an attractive salary, housing and other benefits.
